Not Quite Solid Granny Square

Materials:

Yarn scraps or other yarn of your choice (sample was made with Lion Brand 24/7 100% cotton)

G/4.00 hook or specific to yarn

Size:  4”

Abbreviations: (US terms)

Ch – chain

Sc – single crochet

Dc – double crochet

Dc cluster = 3 dc

Sl st – slip stitch

Notes:

  1. Ch 3 counts as a dc.
  2. At end of rounds, join with sl st to ch 3 or indicated st.
  3. Count stitches at end of each round.
  4. Square size will depend on yarn and hook size.

Instructions

ch 5 and join with sl st to form ring.

Round 1:  sl st in ring,  ch 3, 2 dc, ch1, *3 dc, ch 1 in ring, repeat from * 2 times, join, Fasten off. (4 dc clusters and 4 ch-1 spaces)

Round 2:  Attach new color in any ch-1 space, ch  3, (2 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in same ch-1 space, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in each ch-1 space around, join. Fasten off.   (8 dc clusters, 4 ch-1 spaces)

Round 3:  Attach new color in any corner ch-1 space, ch 3, 1 dc, ch 1, 2 dc in same ch-1 space, 1 dc in each dc, *(2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc,) in corner ch-1space, 1 dc in each dc, repeat from*  around, join.  Fasten off. (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc in each corner, 6 dc on each side )

Round 4:   Attach new color in any corner ch-1 space with sc, 2 sc in corner, *sc in each st to corner, 3 sc in corner, repeat from * around,  join with sl st to sc. Fasten off. (52)
