The Beginners Pocket Tissue Holder is a great, easy and quick Christmas gift, stocking stuffer or birthday present. A friend sews cloth tissue holders and I have one in my project bag so I can find a tissue easily amongst my yarn balls. Her gift inspired me to create a crochet pattern, and I’ll probably carry this one in my purse so I don’t have loose tissues at the bottom of my handbag.
This project is crocheted with single and half double crochet stitches — simple and fast!
Materials:
Worsted weight yarn #4 (approx.45 yards)
H / 5.00 mm hook and G / 4.00 hook
Tapestry needle
Flowers, buttons, beads (optional)
Gauge: 10 hdc = 3” 8 rows = 3”
Finished size: approx. 3.5” x 6”
Abbreviations: (US terms)
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
hdc – half double crochet
st – stitch(es)
** – repeat stitches between * *
( ) – number of stitches at end of row
Notes:
- The ch 1 at the beginning of a row does not count as the first stitch
- Gauge is important or the tissue package may not fit properly
- Each row has 22 stitches
Pattern Instructions
Ch 24
Row 1: hdc in second ch from the hook and each to end, ch 1 and turn (22)
Row 2 – 12: hdc in first st and each st across, ch 1 and turn (22)
Border: ch 1, sc is each stitch on all sides with (1 sc, ch 1, 1 sc) in each corner. Fasten off and weave in ends. Piece will be about 5” x 7” at this point (finished size is smaller)
Finishing:
- Add optional embellishments (flowers, buttons, beads) before finishing sides
- Fold the 2 short sides toward the center, overlap one row and baste or pin in place
- Attach yarn in corner and sc in each stitch across on short side. Fasten off
- Repeat on the other short side. Fasten off and weave in ends
Optional: reinforce the sides of the holder where the tissue pull out
Cut a 15” piece of yarn and thread tapestry needle and attach yarn at center stitch along short edge. Sew the first 3 stitches of the overlapping sides. Repeat for other side
