Christmas Granny Coaster

Materials:
1 skein (2 oz) each Sugar ‘n Cream cotton yarn in wine, sage and soft ecru
G hook
Tapestry needle
Size: approximately 4 ½” across
Abbreviations: (US terms)
sl st – slip stitch
ch- chain
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
hdc spike – half double spike
Special stitch: Half Double Crochet Spike Stitch – Yarn over, insert hook into the stitch 1 row below the current row, pull up a loop that is as tall as your current crochet row, and finish the hdc stitch as usual. See pictures below round 3.

Instructions:
With wine yarn, ch 4. Join to first ch with sl st to make a ring
Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 2 dc in ring, ch 1, *3 dc in ring, ch 1. Repeat *3dc in ring, ch 1, * 4 more times. Join to top of ch 3 and fasten off. (6 groups of 3 dc and 6 ch 1 spaces)
Round 2: Join soft ecru in any ch-1 sp, ch 3 (counts as first dc), (2 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in same space, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next ch-1 space, ch 1, repeat (3dc, ch 1, 3 dc, ch1) 4 more times. Join to top of ch 3 and fasten off. (6 groups of 3dc, ch 1, 3dc)

Round 3: Join sage in a ch-1 space between cream clusters, ch 1, work 1 hdc spike in space where the cream dc stitches were made in the previous row (see pic), (3 dc, ch2, 3 dc) in next ch-1 space, * 1 hdc spike in next ch-1 space, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-1 sp, repeat * 4 more times. Join to top of hdc and fasten off and weave in ends.
