Crochet this Country Pumpkin and add it to your side table, dining table, or window sill. The small Country Pumpkin Crochet Pattern doesn’t take a lot of yarn or time to crochet and can be made with cotton or acrylic yarn. Stuff the pumpkin with polyester filling. add a stem and a couple tendrils and you will have one of the cutest fall pumpkins to add to your fall decorations.

Country Pumpkin Crochet Pattern
.
Materials:
- Sugar ‘n Cream cotton yarn #4 weight (80 yards gold, 10 yards green)
- Hook H/5mm
- Cork, cinnamon stick, or twig, raffia (optional)
- Polyester fiber fill
- Tapestry needle
- Hot glue gun (optional)
- Gauge – approximately 4 rows = 2”
- Size – 4 ½” x 3”
Abbreviations: (US terms)
- ch – chain
- sc – single crochet
- blo – back loop only
- flo – front loop only
- hdc – half double crochet
- hdc2tog – half double crochet 2 stitches together (decrease)
- hdcblo – half double crochet back loop only
- dc – double crochet
- st – stitch(es)
- sl st – slip stitch
- ** – repeat stitches between * *
- ( ) – number of stitches at end of row or round
Hdc2tog – yarn over the crochet hook, insert hook into the next stitch, yarn over, pull yarn through one loop (3 loops on hook), insert hook into the next stitch, yarn over, pull yarn through one loop (4 loops on hook), yarn over, pull yarn through all 4 loops on hook
Notes:
- Size may vary depending on tension and amount of filling
- For a larger pumpkin, try a larger hook, bulky yarn or add to the number of chains or for a small pumpkin, decrease the number of chains
- Each row starts and ends with a single crochet

Pattern

Ch 19 (leave a 18” tail for sewing sides)
Row 1: hdc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in each st across (18)
Row 2: ch 1, turn. hdcblo (half double crochet back loop only) in 1st st and in each st across (18)
Rows 3 – 5: ch 1, turn. hdc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in each st across (18)
Rows 6: ch 1, turn. hdcblo in 1st st and in each st across (18)
Rows 7-: repeat rows 3–6 till piece measures 11” long ending with hdc (approximately 40 rows) (18)
Ch 1 and pull up a 2” loop. Do not fasten off.

Finishing:
Sew short sides together
- Fold the piece in half with the blo ridges on the inside
- Using the 18” tail (from the beginning chain), sew the 2 short sides together (click here for a tutorial on the whip stitch)
- Be sure not to sew in the loop from the last row of hdc
- Fasten off and weave in ends
- Turn the piece right side out (blo ridges on the outside)
Top and bottom
- Insert hook in the loop from last crocheted row and shorten loop, crochet hdc2tog around edge, sl st to 1st hdc2tog (not ch 1)
- Chain 1 to secure the round and fasten off leaving a 35” tail
- With tapestry needle, weave 35” tail through every other hdc2tog stitch
- Pull the stitches tight to close the opening
- Stuff pumpkin with filling to desired firmness
- With the remaining yarn from the 35” tail and needle, pull needle through filling to other side and weave the tail through the top stitches and pull tight to close the opening
- With the remaining yarn of the tail and needle, create 4-5 segments on the pumpkin by wrapping the yarn around the outside of the pumpkin and back up through the center of the pumpkin
- Fasten off and weave in ends
Embellishments:
Add twigs, sticks, corks or cinnamon sticks to make a stem for the pumpkin. Push stem down in center of top and/or use glue to secure the stem to the pumpkin. Add tendrils, leaves, raffia, berries, or lace to the top.

Flat curly Q tendrils: Using H hook and green yarn ( make 2)
Ch 15, 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in next ch, 3 dc in each of the next 9 ch, 2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next, 1 sc in last st
Sew the tendrils to the pumpkin near the center
Fasten off and weave in ends

Curlier tendrils: Using H hook and green yarn (make 2)
Ch 20, hdc in 2nd ch from hook, 2 hdc in each chain across
Sew the tendrils to the pumpkin near the center
Fasten off and weave in ends
