Diamond Granny Square Crochet Pattern. Are you looking for another square to crochet? Maybe something a little modern instead of the same ol’ lovely granny? Some time ago I saw a picture of a Diamond Granny Square and wanted to crochet one immediately, but could not find a written pattern. The image of that granny square stayed with me and I finally got busy creating a pattern.
While crocheting this square I made an error in the color switching. Lo and behold, I had another design! I finished that second square and set it aside. As soon as I completed the written pattern for the Diamond Granny Square, I started writing the pattern for the second square – Crossing Lines Granny Square. Be on the lookout for that pattern in 2-3 weeks.
Diamond Granny Square
.
Materials:
Worsted weight #4 (Loops & Threads Impeccable, Navy and Soft Fern)
H/5mm hook
Tapestry needle
Skill level: Advanced beginner
Size: 5 1/8” x 5 1/8”
Abbreviations (US terms)
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
sl st – slip stitch
ch-2 – chain 2
Notes:
- When changing yarn colors, make a seamless color change. Click here for a tutorial on changing yarn colors
- Starting in Round 3, you will alternate yarns – drop one color and crochet with the 2nd color – do not fasten off the yarns. Carry the yarns along the top of the row on the back side. Click here for a video tutorial.
- When carrying the yarn, be sure to pull the yarn a little so there are no big loops on the back side. See the last picture for a view of what the back side could look like with different sizes of color change loops. I wasn’t always paying attention. :’)
- If you want your piece to be smaller or larger than 5 1/8″ square, try another hook size to get the size you want.
